PostRSS connects to Instagram through Instagram Login, which means a professional Instagram account is enough on its own — no Facebook Page, no Business Manager, no linking two products together. If you have ever abandoned an Instagram tool because it demanded a Facebook Page first, this is the part that changed. If you want the setup rather than the background, see our auto-post RSS to Instagram page.
Instagram publishing is currently in testing while approval from Meta is pending.
For years the only way to publish to Instagram through an interface was the route that goes through Facebook. Meta treated an Instagram professional account as something attached to a Page, so every tool had to ask for the Page as well. In practice that meant three things people disliked:
Meta now offers two separate routes. The newer one, Instagram Login, is built for exactly this case: you authorise the Instagram account itself, and Meta’s own documentation states that this setup does not require a Facebook Page to be linked to the account. There is a fuller setup walkthrough on our auto-post RSS to Facebook page.
PostRSS uses that newer route. The practical difference for you:
When you connect, Instagram shows you what is being requested. There are two items:
instagram_business_basic — the account’s name and id, so it can appear in your list of targets.instagram_business_content_publish — permission to publish a post.Messages and comments permissions exist in Instagram’s interface, and PostRSS deliberately does not ask for them. Every additional permission is something that has to be justified, reviewed and trusted — and publishing does not need them.
One requirement has not gone away: the account must be Business or Creator. Instagram does not allow publishing to personal accounts through any interface, so this is not something a tool can work around. Switching is free and takes seconds in the Instagram app under Settings and privacy → Account type and tools.
If your Instagram account is still personal, the switch is the only preparation you need. In the Instagram app, open your profile, go to Settings and privacy → Account type and tools and choose a professional account. Instagram then asks whether you are a creator or a business; both types work with PostRSS in exactly the same way, so pick the one that describes you best. Your posts, followers and username stay as they are.
Once the account is professional, connecting it to PostRSS is a single sign-in. You log in on Instagram’s own screen, review the two permissions listed above and approve them. The account then appears in your list of targets, ready to be linked to a feed.
From that point, every new item in your feed becomes an Instagram post without anyone touching a phone. PostRSS handles the parts Instagram is strict about:
Instagram is currently being tested in PostRSS. Everything is built and working on our side, and publishing is waiting for approval from Meta. That approval is Meta’s decision, not something a tool can speed up. Until it arrives, you can prepare everything: switch the account type, set up your feed and connect the other networks you use, such as your Facebook Page, so that Instagram is simply one more target when publishing opens.
Instagram is a visual network, so not every item on your site belongs there. A category feed that contains only articles or products with strong photos usually works better than the full site feed. PostRSS can also filter a feed by keywords in the item title and description, and turn the categories and tags of each item into hashtags, which suits Instagram well. Keep the featured image of every article clear and well framed, because that picture is what your followers will see first.
No. A linked Page is simply ignored — PostRSS does not ask for it and does not use it.
It can. Facebook is a separate network in PostRSS with its own connection. The two do not depend on each other.
Yes, from your Instagram settings. Publishing stops immediately, and PostRSS shows the target as inactive rather than retrying silently.
Instagram issues a token that lasts 60 days, and PostRSS renews it automatically before it expires. You do not have to reconnect every two months.
