Post to Instagram Within the 100-Posts-a-Day Limit

Instagram allows 100 published posts per account in any rolling 24-hour period. PostRSS checks that limit before every post, and when a busy feed reaches it, the remaining items are published later instead of being thrown away.

Instagram publishing is currently in testing while approval from Meta is pending.

What the limit is, and what it is not

The number you will still find in older articles is 25. Meta’s current documentation says 100 posts within a 24-hour moving period, and it provides an endpoint that reports how many of those have already been used. A carousel — several pictures in one post — counts as a single post.

It is a rolling window, not a midnight reset. If fifty posts went out at nine this morning, those fifty stay counted until nine tomorrow morning.

Why PostRSS checks it before publishing

Meta’s documentation asks applications that publish automatically to enforce the limit themselves, and there is a practical reason to do so. If a tool ignores it and simply fires requests, the first refusal looks like an error, the item may be marked as failed, and the post is gone. Checking first turns a hard failure into a delay.

So before each post, PostRSS asks Instagram how much of the allowance is used. If the account is at the limit, the item stays in the queue and is published once the window has moved on. You see the reason in plain words — the daily publishing limit has been reached, this post will be published later — not a red error.

Who actually hits 100 posts a day

Almost nobody. To reach it, a single feed would have to produce more than four new items every hour, all day, all going to the same Instagram account. In practice the limit matters in two situations:

  • A first import. Pointing PostRSS at a feed with a long history and asking it to publish everything can produce a burst.
  • Several feeds, one account. The limit belongs to the Instagram account, not to the target, so three feeds pointing at one account share the same 100.

In both cases nothing is lost — the run simply takes longer than a day.

How to avoid the burst

  • When adding a source, set the date from which items should be published rather than publishing the entire archive.
  • Use the maximum posts per update setting to smooth a large feed into a steady stream.
  • If several feeds share one Instagram account, consider whether they should really go to the same place.

Planning Several Feeds Around One Allowance

Because the 100 posts belong to the Instagram account, the useful planning question is not how many feeds you connect but how many items all of them produce together for that account. A simple way to check is to count the new items each feed published over a typical week, add them up for every feed that points to the same account, and divide by seven. If the daily total is well below 100, the limit will never be noticed. If it comes close, a few settings keep the stream even:

  • Keyword filters: for each source you can include or exclude items by words in the title and description, so only the items that belong on Instagram reach the account.
  • Posting windows: on paid plans, publishing can be limited to chosen hours or exact times, which spreads posts across the day instead of releasing them in a burst.
  • Order: choose newer items first, older first or random, so the most relevant posts go out first when a queue builds up.

It also helps to separate what goes where. A shop with thousands of products may not want every product on Instagram; a category feed with only new arrivals or featured items keeps the account focused and far away from the limit. The same full feed can still go to other networks, because every target in PostRSS has its own source, filters and schedule. That way the Instagram account receives a curated slice of your content, while channels that handle high volume, such as a Telegram channel or a team chat, receive everything.

The Other Instagram Rules PostRSS Handles

The daily allowance is only one of the rules Instagram applies to automatic publishing. Every post needs a picture, because Instagram does not accept text-only posts, so PostRSS takes the image from the feed item, converts it to JPEG and crops it to a shape Instagram accepts, between 4:5 and 1.91:1. The caption is written from the feed item and trimmed to Instagram’s 2,200-character maximum. Links in Instagram captions are not clickable, so it is worth keeping the call to action in words rather than relying on the URL.

PostRSS connects through the newer Instagram Login, which means a Business or Creator account is enough on its own and no Facebook Page is needed. We keep the step-by-step version on the auto-post RSS to Instagram page.

Instagram Status in PostRSS

Instagram publishing is built and working on the PostRSS side, and it is currently marked as being tested while approval from Meta is pending. Until then, the same feed can already post to your Facebook Page, which is available on every plan including the Free plan. The pricing page shows which networks each plan includes.

FAQ

Does the limit apply per PostRSS plan?

No. It is Instagram’s limit, applied per Instagram account, and it is the same for everyone.

Do failed posts count?

Only published posts count. A post that was refused for another reason does not use up the allowance.

What happens to items waiting for the window?

They stay in the queue in order and are published as capacity frees up. Nothing is deleted.

Can I see how much of the limit is used?

PostRSS reads it before each post. When the limit is the reason for a delay, that is stated on the target.

Does a carousel count as one post or several?

A carousel, several pictures in one post, counts as a single post toward the 100-post allowance.
