An All Company community wants the corporate blog and major announcements; an engineering community wants release notes; a regional community wants the feed in its own language if you publish one. Pointing everything at All Company is the quickest way to have people mute it.

What the community sees

Each new item is posted as a message with its text and a link card to the article — the preview format Viva Engage renders for URLs, which reads as a deliberate share rather than a pasted link.

This makes it a good destination for internal news, company blogs and newsletters: the things an organisation publishes anyway and then struggles to get anyone to read.

• Release notes and product updates, into the communities that care.

Microsoft Viva Engage next to the other internal channels

Most organisations already push internal news through three or four channels at once: email, an intranet page, a Teams channel and, increasingly, Viva Engage. The honest observation is that they perform very differently. Email gets opened and deleted; an intranet page gets visited when somebody is sent a link; a Teams channel gets read by the team it belongs to. Viva Engage is the one that behaves like a feed people scroll.

That makes it complementary rather than competing. The same source feed can go to a Viva Engage community and to a Teams channel through the generic webhook destination, and reach two different reading habits without anyone writing the announcement twice. Both are Targets, and the marginal cost of the second is a minute of setup.

Setting it up, step by step

1. Have your Microsoft work account ready, and check whether your organisation requires administrator consent for third-party applications.
2. In PostRSS, open Accounts and choose Add new Microsoft Viva Engage account. Sign in through the official Microsoft Entra login and approve the connection.
3. Open Targets and click Add feed. One feed going to one destination is one Target.
4. In Target settings, choose Viva Engage and the account you just connected. Pick the community where new items should appear.
5. Click Add source. Set Type to RSS feed and paste your feed address into Link. Save.
6. Check the first item that arrives. PostRSS checks the feed every 5 minutes, and every minute on Enterprise plans.

PostRSS publishes items that appear in the feed after the Target starts running. It does not import the back catalogue — the alternative would be a destination flooded with years of archive on its first day.

Check the feed before you check the integration

When a destination goes quiet, the feed is usually the cause. Open the feed URL in a browser first.

• Anything new since you connected it? Only items appearing after the Target starts running are published.
• Full text or a summary? A summary-only feed produces thin output, and no destination can restore text the feed never sent.
• Absolute links? Relative URLs work on your site and break everywhere else.
• Valid XML? A feed address that returns an HTML error page produces silence rather than an error.

When posts stop appearing

• Consent was revoked. A Microsoft 365 administrator can withdraw consent for an application at tenant level, and posting stops immediately.
• Your account lost access to the community. The connection acts as your account; if it cannot post there, neither can the integration.
• The community was archived or deleted. Re-select a community in Target settings.
• Nothing new in the feed. Only items appearing after the Target starts running are posted.
